1916

Robert Rees, Twenty four, Railway Clerk Passenger Depot

Grounds:

Reasons: Having taken the oath of allegiance to (abide to the lord Jesus Christ and his Gospel, I feel it quite impossible to undertake service in the furtherance of war. My religious convictions are such that (??) war - under all circumstances,- to be obposed to christianity. I am compelled not to attest as it incurs the taking of the mIlitary oath. I may also add that i am the only son left of a widow (my only brother being already in military service). Both my mother and sister are entirely dependant upon me. In the faces of clauses F and D of the Military Act of 1916 I therefore claim exemption

Verdict: Exempted till 25 March 1916 and after that date exempted from all military service exceptin the royal Auxy Medical Corp. Grounds (d) and (f) John Evans Chairman

William Henry Waters, 19, Student. Applicant is the military representative

Grounds:

Reasons: First, I would kindly refer you to my last form sent in on March 1st. Those grounds have not entirely changed neither have I any further reasons to add. However, I think three reasons sufficiently valid to appeal for further exemption as previously stated I have been educated for seven years and have to continue for about two years before I shall gain any standard of earning a livelihood by the teaching profession. Should I be interrupted in my studies just now, the loss of time would undoubtedly be irreparable and the financial loss to my parents and myself could never be made good. Further what encourages me to make this appeal to The fact that the Military Service acts definitely state that anyone who is being educated or trained for a particular profession is entitled to exemption. For this reason I am confident that you will give my case a fair and indiscous hearing.

Verdict: Exempted till 30th September 1916 on the condition that the exemption shall not be open to revewal of exemption except application wade with the leave of the Tribunal.
